Key Summary:

  • US delays tariff war, but remains steadfast on China
  • Short-term relief for markets, though uncertainty remains
  • Impact of tariffs likely limited for Indonesian economy

United States (US) has paused “reciprocal tariffs” on all countries (except to China) for 90 days, backtracking on its policy after causing turmoil across global financial markets in the past week.

Yet, the trade war between the world’s two biggest economies has intensified, where United States increased its tariffs to 125% (from 34%) after China retaliated with its own tariffs (from 34% to 84%).
