Key Summary:

  • Hajj costs decline despite rising fuel and geopolitical pressures
  • Underlying costs increase driven by fuel prices and rerouting
  • Financial buffers absorb costs but sustainability remains uncertain

Indonesia’s President has stated that Hajj costs in 2026 will decrease by IDR 2 million despite rising jet fuel prices. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah had previously set the Hajj Organizing Cost for 2026 at IDR 87 million per regular pilgrim, down -2% YoY.

The hidden cost: The Indonesian government is committed to absorb the difference in rising operational costs caused by higher energy prices so that they are not directly passed on to the pilgrims.
